HELP University College was founded on 1 April 1986 by Datuk Dr Paul Chan and his wife Datin Chan-Low Kam Yoke, to provide affordable quality educational opportunities for Malaysians.

It was founded as HELP Institute, and its first location was a simple shop-lot in Kampung Atap, Kuala Lumpur.
In 1989, HELP Institute moved to another location in Jalan Ipoh.
HELP University College moved to its current location in Pusat Bandar Damansara, Damansara Heights in 1991.
From humble beginnings, HELP University College has developed into a leading institution of higher learning in Malaysia with a firmly established international reputation among universities, research organisations, scholars, business and corporate leaders and governments in Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America.
In 2004, HELP was conferred University College status by the Malaysian government. The conferment was a tacit recognition of HELP’s distinguished achievements and success.
Since then, HELP has experienced rapid growth. It has successfully developed its own degree programs up to doctoral level and added a large cohort of lecturers (many with PhDs). It is now a multi-campus university: its newest location is at the new commercial hub of Fraser Business Park in KL.
A new 22-acre campus is slated to be completed in 2013 in Subang 2. It will be an eco-friendly campus with the facilities and capacity to accommodate 22,000 students.
